Description:
Doug Aitken is almost as active in book production as he is in public film installation. Doug Aitken: A-Z Book (Fractals), published to accompany a 2002 exhibition at Philadelphia’s Fabric Workshop and Museum, uses the alphabet as a structure for progressing through new photography, a series of collages, and video imagery drawn from works such as Interiors and New Ocean and New Skin. Alongside the vibrant images are a variety of brief texts by Aitken, a conversation with curator Russell Ferguson, short fiction by artist Philippe Parreno, an essay by design critic Michael Speaks, and portions of an interview between the Aitken and Dan Kish, a blind man working at the Braille Institute in Los Angeles.
